Using a 30x50 as a Shop
1,500 square feet at a full 30-foot clear width. This is the size where a building stops being storage and starts being a workshop: room for a vehicle bay at one end and a permanent bench, welding table or woodworking run down the length.
With no interior columns you can lay the floor out once and change it later. That is the practical difference from a post-frame shop of the same area, where the post grid decides the layout for you.
Two things worth settling before engineering rather than after, because both are far cheaper to change on paper:
- Eave height, if a vehicle lift is in the plan. Lifts carry a minimum ceiling requirement that is usually taller than a standard 10-foot eave. Tell your estimator the make and model and we will price an eave that clears it.
- Where the bench run goes. Power and air follow the bench, and door placement decides where the bench can go. Settling the door first keeps you from cutting into finished panel.
What a 30x50 Costs Beyond the Building
$18,900 covers stamped engineering drawings, the building components and freight. The concrete is separate, and at 1,500 square feet it is a serious line rather than an afterthought. This is the single most-searched slab size we see, which tells you how many buyers reach this point and realise they have not priced it.
We will not publish a figure for it. A slab price that holds in one county is wrong in the next, and at this size the variables compound: frost depth, existing grade, delivery distance, reinforcement schedule, control-joint layout and finish.
Ask two or three local contractors for 1,500 square feet with a thickened perimeter, and ask specifically how they intend to lay the joints out - on a 50-foot run that answer tells you whether they have poured this size before. Your stamped drawings carry the anchor-bolt pattern and we send it straight to them.

If 30 feet gives your shop and storage split enough room, that’s the more affordable building. If the shop bay itself needs the extra 10 feet to work around equipment, 40x50 is worth pricing before you commit to the narrower footprint.
